Journey Through Time on the Kessler Mountain Geology Hike

Dive into Earth’s ancient history with a unique guided experience on Kessler Mountain!
Led by the knowledgeable staff of the Ozark Natural Science Center and Chris Moyer, a retired geologist, and NWACC Geology professor, this hike combines classroom learning with an unforgettable trek through the scenic Rock City and Fayetteville Traverse trails.

⏰ Time: 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM (3 hours, 30 minutes)
📍 Location: Ozark Mountain Smokehouse (1725 S. Smokehouse Trail, Fayetteville, AR 72701)
What to Expect:
- Interactive Geology Presentation: Begin with a brief slideshow on foundational geology concepts and the unique geologic history of Fayetteville.
- Guided Hike: Explore the Rock City formations, stunning outcrops, and learn how geology shapes the surrounding landscapes.
- Nature Connection: Discover the local flora and fauna thriving amidst this natural wonder.
Hike Information
- Trail Difficulty: Moderate (steep half-mile road to the trailhead, followed by a fairly easy 3-mile hike).
- Duration: Approximately 3 hours.
- Footwear: Wear sturdy tennis shoes or boots with hard soles.
- Bring: A water bottle to stay hydrated.
Ticket Prices
- Adults (18 & up): $15
- Teens (12-17): $5
- Under 12: Not recommended, but exceptions may be made. Contact liz.hill@onsc.us for inquiries.
