What You’ll Actually Do
Your guides lead you through two separate caves over the course of six hours, covering about 1.5 miles total. The first cave features narrow, damp passages and low-light conditions where you’ll walk roughly half a mile on uneven surfaces. Your guide fills you in on geological formations and local lore while you navigate spaces that feel worlds away from downtown Bentonville.
Midday brings a picnic lunch at Sulphur Springs Park, weather permitting, where natural springs and bluffs give you a scenic break before heading to cave number two. Bring your own lunch and layer up, because January doesn’t care about your picnic plans.
The second cave stretches out longer with about a mile of walking through dark corridors and bluff-side formations. This one carries stories of early Ozark settlers who used these natural shelters, adding human history to the geological show. Expect steep steps, careful footing, and conditions that require real shoes, not the pair you wore to brunch last weekend.
Pack Smart, Dress Right
You’ll get transportation between sites, expert guides, cave admission, and snacks and drinks throughout the day. What you won’t get: lunch or guide tips, so plan your budget accordingly. Wear athletic clothes in layers with tennis shoes or hiking boots that can handle damp, uneven terrain. Throw in water, your own snacks, and a sack lunch, and you’re set.
The adventure starts at 9:00 AM at SCOTT Adventure Lab and wraps by 3:00 PM back in Bentonville. You’ll need to feel comfortable navigating steep steps, narrow passageways, and dark spaces where watching your footing matters.
