A 27 Day Expedition Testimony Beneath a Mountain Comes to Pack Rat
Some people chase adventure on weekends. Matt Covington spent 27 days underground in southern Mexico doing it. This March, he’s bringing that story to Pack Rat. If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to explore one of the world’s deepest known caves, this is your chance to find out.

Into the Depths of Sistema Cheve
Covington led a team into Cueva Palomora, a cave near the current terminus of Sistema Cheve in Mexico’s Sierra Juarez range, with one goal: find where Sistema Cheve continues. He’s an Associate Professor of Geosciences at the University of Arkansas, a Fayetteville native, and one of the leading cave researchers in the field.
What to Expect
When you show up on March 16, you’re getting a first-person account of what it actually takes to spend nearly a month beneath a mountain range with no daylight. Covington walks you through the science, the challenges, and the moments that made the expedition worth every day underground. Seating is limited, so bring a folding chair if you have one.
