A Behind-the-Scenes Tour Before the Trek

Gary Vernon, General Manager of OZ Trails Bike Park, starts the morning indoors with the backstory on the trails and a walk through the facility. Then it’s outside and up the South Trail, a 1.3-mile route with Gary as your guide. Who better to show you around than the guy who runs the place?

Leave the Hiking Boots at Home

The South Trail is pretty easy and light on rocks, so you don’t need shoes with deep tread. Regular tennis shoes work just fine. The group sticks together as much as possible at a fairly slow pace, so nobody gets left behind in the woods on Halloween. (Spooky in all the wrong ways.)

Dress to Thrill

Costumes are encouraged but optional. Want bragging rights? The hiker voted best costume takes home a prize courtesy of the Bike Park. Pro tip: a costume that survives 1.3 miles of trail is a strong contender.

Hosted by Hike NWA

Hike NWA is the local nonprofit behind the morning. Its mission is to inspire and empower more people to confidently enjoy and care for local trails.

When you arrive, check in at the main building and grab your wristband before the tour starts. Sign the waiver online ahead of time so the paperwork’s done before you show up. The park sits on the west side of Highway 71, across from Allen’s.

See you there, NWA.
