Voices from Eureka’s Silent City Brings Lantern-Lit History to the Cemetery

Lanterns glow between the headstones at Eureka Springs Cemetery, and for a few nights this October, the people buried there get to talk back. The Eureka Springs Historical Museum’s “Voices from Eureka’s Silent City” puts character actors on the grounds after dark, and each one plays a real person who once called this hillside town home.

Meet the Neighbors of New Town

This year’s tour, “Tales from New Town,” focuses on the people who lived along the upper rim of South Eureka, the stretch of road now known as Highway 62. You’ll meet actors who portray these figures and tell the story of their lives and times in Eureka Springs.

You’ll want to arrive early, since tours are first come, first served and lines can form during busy stretches.

Getting There Without the Guesswork

There’s no parking at the cemetery itself. You’ll park at the Cup of Love lot instead, where a trolley takes you to and from the tour. A souvenir program booklet comes with your ticket.

You can buy tickets at the museum, at local CS Bank branches, online, or in person at the parking lot on the night of the event. If you order online, pick up your tickets at the museum ahead of time, or just show your confirmation email at will call.

Dress for the Weather, Not the Forecast

Tours go on rain or shine, so dress warm and pack an umbrella or poncho if the skies look uncertain. The museum says a little mist rolling through only makes the lantern light better. Your ticket works for any of the five nights, so you can switch to a drier evening if the weather turns.
