Corvettes Take Over Pine Mountain for Eureka Springs Corvette Weekend

Thirty-five years in, the arrangement still holds. Eureka Springs is a town built on switchbacks and stone staircases, a place where the roads were laid down around the hills instead of through them, and it turns out to be a good place to park a fleet of fiberglass.

Corvette people have been making the trip up here since the early nineties, long enough that the weekend has its own rhythm. Some of it is competitive. Most of it is just owners with nowhere in particular to be, comparing paint in a parking lot and taking the long way home.

THE DEETS

Timed Runs and a Detour to Blue Spring

Thursday afternoon starts with the Blindman Autocross at the Convention Center, with a hospitality area, cash bar and vendors on site. Friday morning moves to Pine Mountain for the Fuel Economy Run, with staging open until 11 AM.

Friday afternoon is the Quick 60. Cars launch as hard as they can, the clock measures the first 60 feet, and then you have 40 feet to stop. Rules are posted on the ESCW site.

If you would rather ride than race, the Scenic Tour leaves Friday at 3 PM from First Christian Church at 763 Passion Play Road and runs out to Blue Spring Heritage Center, where 38 million gallons of cold water pour into a trout lagoon every day. The Heritage Center invites visitors to the “land of blue skies and laughing waters,” and its native gardens sit on ground that sustained the Cherokee people during the Trail of Tears. Gardens cost $7 a head in cash, exact change appreciated, and parts of the drive are gravel. Bring a camera.

Eight Generations Parked Side by Side

Owner’s Choice Car Show staging closes at 10:30 AM Saturday at Pine Mountain, with DJ Eddie Valen playing through the morning. The show opens at 9 AM, and a For Sale Corral runs alongside it if you came to shop rather than look.

Every registered car picks up a dash plaque and a hat pin on arrival, and registering also puts you in the drawing for a new Corvette. Voting is by random ballot and owners turn theirs in by 11:30 AM. Categories cover every generation from the 1953 to 1962 C-1s to the C-8s, so you can walk one row and see how far the thing has come. No trailers, golf carts or tents on the show grounds. The American Legion presents a Salute to Veterans and First Responders at noon, and awards start around 12:30 PM.

A Scavenger Hunt Written Into Your Packet

The ESCW Scavenger Hunt is new this year, and it starts as soon as you pick up your registration packet. Inside are clues pointing to items downtown, all of them visible from outside and within walking distance. Work out the clue, photograph the item, and get yourself in the shot if you want. Submission instructions come with the packet, and there is an award for it alongside the ones for the driving events.

Cards, a Parade and One Last Cinnamon Roll

The Poker Run registers and leaves from Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge on Hwy 23 South, 3 to 4 PM Saturday. Award winners stage at First Christian Church at 6 PM for the Parade of Champions, then head west on Hwy 62 at 6:30 and finish at the Inn of the Ozarks.

Sunday, the Bon Voyage Breakfast is at Base Camp Coffee House, 150 Passion Play Road. Cinnamon rolls, muffins, breakfast sandwiches and a full coffee and tea menu. There is more paved parking next door at St. Elizabeth Parrish.

Where the Money Goes

ESCW is an Arkansas nonprofit that has given away more than $136,150 since it started, and the clubs behind it come from all over: Northwest Arkansas, Razorback, Central Arkansas, Tulsa Vet Set, Kansas City, Heartland, Air Capital, Southwest Missouri and Lone Star. There is also a private show staged at a local nursing home.
