Dress Up and Dash Through Coler at Here’s Johnny 10K

Your trail shoes and your costume box are about to become best friends. Coler Mountain Bike Preserve turns into a Halloween playground for one morning, and the only trick is keeping your pace steady while you’re dodging skeletons and jack-o’-lanterns.

Trick-or-Treat on the Trails

This is a costume race first and a 10K second, and you’ll feel that the moment you hit the woods. Skeletons, ghosts, and jack-o’-lanterns line the course alongside friendly monsters and candy-colored surprises. Go creepy, go cute, it doesn’t matter. What matters is showing up ready to run through Coler, channeling your inner Jack Torrance for the morning.

You’ll walk away with a finisher medal and a t-shirt, and awards go out to the top overall runners plus the top three in each age group. Costume prizes are their own category, so don’t hold back on the glitter or the fake blood.

PepsiCo and Monster Energy Ultra are presenting this year’s race, and you can preview the full course on Strava before you lace up.

Getting There Without the Headache

Peel Compton highly encourages carpooling on race morning. Three lots sit roughly the same distance from the start at The Homestead: the Coler Grove lot and South Gateway lot, both on NW 3rd St. in Bentonville, and the North lot on Peach Orchard Road. None of them has a real edge over the others, so pick whichever gets your group there fastest and share a ride if you can.

Train With a Group Before Race Day

If a 10K on singletrack sounds intimidating, Peel Compton built a six-week program to get you there. Starting August 26 and running every Wednesday at 6 AM through September 30, you’ll get weekly group sessions covering running technique, endurance building, trail navigation, and injury prevention, all led by a trainer. It works if you’re stepping up from 5Ks, and it works if you’ve never raced on trails before. Your $105 program fee includes race registration, so it pencils out close to signing up separately anyway. Sign up for training here.

Make a Weekend of It

Coler Campground sits close enough to the course that you could roll out of your tent and nearly onto the trail. Tent and van sites, hot showers, and direct access to Coler Mountain Bike Preserve make it an easy call if you’re coming from outside Bentonville or just want to turn race day into a full weekend outdoors. Reserve a site here.

Registration caps at 300 runners, and there are no refunds once you sign up, though you can transfer your spot to someone else. Proceeds support Coler Mountain Bike Preserve and the Peel Compton Foundation’s work connecting the community to nature through education, recreation, and preservation.

If you have questions before race day, reach out to event director Stefan Olive at [email protected].
