Pushkin Meets the Ozarks
Playwright Sarah Gancher (creator of the Obie Award-winning Russian Troll Farm) wrote the music, book, and lyrics, moving Pushkin’s novel and Tchaikovsky’s opera out of Russia and into rural Arkansas. You follow a young woman who dreams of writing songs as she falls for a touring musician passing through town. He’s magnetic. He’s jaded. Things get complicated.

Tony Award-winning director Rachel Chavkin (Hadestown) transformed T2’s West Theatre into an in-the-round picking circle. Every seat puts you close to the stage, with 15 actor-musicians each playing their own instrument live. The show was developed at the 2024 Arkansas New Play Festival, so its Arkansas roots run deeper than just the setting.
