Hike Hawksbill Crag and Cool Off at Steel Creek on This 37 North Expeditions Day Trip
Hawksbill Crag has a reputation that holds up. The rocky outcrop jutting over the Ozark National Forest is one of those Arkansas spots that keeps showing up on lists for a reason, and 37 North Expeditions is leading a guided day trip out there this May. You get the hike, the views, and a swim in Steel Creek on the way back.

Worth the Drive
The trailhead is about 105 miles from Bentonville, which is exactly the kind of trip that’s easier when someone else handles the logistics. 37 North Expeditions covers transportation, snacks, drinks, sunscreen, and bug spray, so you’re showing up to The MOTTO, loading into a van, and heading out without coordinating a carpool. Pack a sack lunch, swimsuit, towel, and a change of clothes and you’re set.
The Hike
Whitaker’s Point, better known as Hawksbill Crag, is a 2.7-mile out-and-back rated beginner to intermediate. There are some rocky, uneven stretches but no technical climbing. The trail moves through dense forest and past rock formations before opening up at the crag. The view out over the valley is what gives the rock its name, and you’ll have time to take it in before heading back down.

After the Sweat
Once you’re back at the van, the group heads to Steel Creek, a swim hole along the Buffalo River. You’ll have a couple of hours to cool off, eat lunch, and take in the bluffs before the drive back to Bentonville.

Lock In Your Spot
Trips like this tend to fill up so secure your spot now. Plan to arrive by 8:00 AM since the van rolls out at 8:30 AM sharp. Tips for your guide are not included in the trip cost.
