Hit the Buffalo River by Kayak and on Foot This June

The Buffalo National River carves through some of the most striking terrain in Arkansas, and this June, you could be on it. A local outfitter is taking a small group on a full-day guided trip that combines paddling with a mid-day waterfall hike. Seats are limited.

Steel Creek to Kyles Landing

The route covers approximately 8 miles of the upper Buffalo, launching from Steel Creek and finishing at Kyles Landing. Along the way, you’ll pass towering limestone bluffs, forested riverbanks, and calm stretches of crystal-clear water. Your guides from 37 North Expeditions handle all logistics, gear, and safety briefings.

Kayak (single or tandem), paddle, PFD, and dry bags are all included. Guides also provide lunch, snacks, and beverages served riverside at the midday stop, where you’ll have time to swim and explore the banks.

A Waterfall Worth the Detour

Midway through the day, the paddles get stowed for boots. At 1:30 PM, the group breaks from the river for a hike to Hemmed-In Hollow. The hike wraps up at 2:30 PM before the group heads back to the water to finish the route.

Pack Light, Paddle Ready

This trip is rated moderate and is designed for guests with prior paddling experience. First-time kayakers are not the right fit here, but confident swimmers with time on the water will do well.

Arrive at the meeting point no later than 8:00 AM. The group departs for the Buffalo Outdoor Center at 8:30 AM. Transportation is provided, and the shuttle back to Bentonville leaves at 5:00 PM, with an estimated return of 7:00 PM.

Recommended gear includes athletic clothing, a swimsuit, water shoes or sandals (no flip flops), a hat, sunscreen, a towel, a water bottle, a change of clothes, a waterproof case for your phone and any medications, a glasses or sunglasses leash, and extra snacks. Guide gratuity is not included.
