Walk into The Medium in Springdale and you find something you rarely get to see up close, the actual process behind finished art. Animatic frames, wild Ozark clay, and cut paper collage sit under one roof for one evening. Visual Art Night opens that process up to the public.

David Condolora Pulls Back The Curtain On Animation
David Condolora’s exhibition, “The Fox in the Walled Garden,” is an animatic pieced together from storyboard frames and early sound and music. An animatic sits at the very first stage of animation, a working blueprint before a single frame gets animated. This particular animatic works as a piece of a full feature film Condolora is developing, a coming of age story about friendship, feeling out of place inside a seemingly ideal society, the struggle to live in harmony with nature, and the power of truth. Seeing it at this raw stage gives you a direct read on how a director actually builds a story from scratch.
Collage Gets A Second Life With Gala Reneaum Tello
Gala Reneaum Tello, artist in residence, was born in Mexico City and now lives in Northwest Arkansas, where she founded ArtsyGala. Her current work leans into collage, upcycling ordinary materials and the small leftover pieces of daily life into work that freezes a single moment in time. Stand close to one of her pieces and you start noticing what she saved and rebuilt into something that reads more like a visual diary than a picture.
Local Clay Becomes Functional Art In Arshia Khan’s Hands
Arshia Khan, artist in residence, works with wild clay sourced locally from the Ozarks, shaping it into a new body of functional ceramics, cups and bowls you would actually use rather than just display. She’s interested in the intimacy of everyday objects, the cup you reach for each morning, the bowl passed around a table, and how handmade objects made from local material can enrich your daily rituals. Her work explores locality, permanence, and craft, and asks you to slow down and consider where the materials in your hands actually come from.
What The Creative Exchange Fund Supports
Visual Art Night runs through The Medium’s Creative Exchange Fund program, which puts local artists and their work, including work still in progress, in front of you as a public audience.
David Condolora, Gala Reneaum Tello, and Arshia Khan all take part in the free reception and artist talk, giving you a direct chance to learn about each of their artistic processes. Come and see three very different creative practices land in the same room.
