Crystal Bridges Ceramics Studio Hosts Handbuilt Creature Sculpture Class

Clay holds whatever story you decide to give it. This class hands you the reins from the first session, starting with the creature only you could dream up. From there, the material takes over, and you build a sculpture that exists only because you imagined it.

Shape Becomes the Story

You start by thinking about how shape and form can carry meaning. From there, you use reference images to develop your own complex, creature-inspired design.

From Sketch to Sculpture

Once your design is set, you move into hand building and a range of surface techniques that bring it to life in clay. The six-week format gives you room to stretch your technical skills and your ideas at the same time. Each session, you add more detail to your sculpture.

This class rewards personal expression over exact technique, so your finished piece only has to look like your version of the creature you imagined. All materials are provided. Show up with your idea for a creature, and let the studio supply everything else.
