Fall Foliage Train Ride and Hike Takes You Through Winslow Tunnel to Yellow Rock Overlook

Fall color in the Ozarks asks very little of you except that you look up. The hills of The Natural State change color without any help from you, and no one has to plan a thing for it to happen. That leaves you with a simple job, which is to get somewhere with a good view and let the season do the work.

All Aboard the Boston Mountains

You meet at the Motto, and from there the group departs for the railway station. Once the train pulls out, you ride 70 miles round trip through the Boston Mountain range of the Ozarks. The route crosses three valley trestles and passes through the 1,700-foot-long Winslow Tunnel.

When the train returns to the railway station, the group heads for Devil’s Den State Park.

Easy Steps to Yellow Rock

At the park, you walk the CCC Scenic Overlook Trail, a beginner-level trail that connects the CCC Scenic Overlook to Yellow Rock Overlook.

Along the way you see fall foliage and wide views of the Lee Creek Valley. The hike is beginner-friendly, and the relaxed pace leaves room to stop and take it in. After Yellow Rock Overlook, the group departs for the Motto, where the day ends.
