Step Inside JR’s Printing Press at The Momentary Before It Closes
French artist JR has spent years pasting massive portraits of everyday people onto bridges, buildings, and city streets. Now his process is the exhibit, and you’re the subject.

The Machine Behind the Art: Inside JR’s Printing Press has been running at The Momentary since May 24, 2025, and it wraps up June 7, 2026. You sit for a portrait, step inside an oversized working printing press, and watch it turn your image into something you can carry home. It’s one of those experiences that’s harder to explain than it is to just go do.

Press Play on the Process
JR built his career on scale, images so large they change how a space feels. This installation brings that same approach indoors. After your portrait is taken in one of three individual photo booths, you move through the interior of the press itself while it works. The result is a 4.5-by-3-foot print that’s yours to keep.

It pulls back the curtain on a creative process most people only see the end of, and it puts you in the middle of it.

Spots are timed and limited, so this is one worth booking ahead rather than showing up and hoping for the best. Grab your ticket before June 7 and see what it feels like to be the art.
