What You’re Walking Into
The design team built a world that starts working on you before the curtain rises. Nine types of red fabric line the theater walls. Two hundred speakers are tucked into the set, some hidden inside table lampshades in the front seating area. The lighting moves from tight spotlights to sweeping romantic purples and blues. You’ll notice the elephant. You’ll notice the windmill. And then the music starts.

Baz Luhrmann’s film gets reimagined from the ground up, with direction from Tony winner Alex Timbers, choreography from Sonya Tayeh, and costumes built to move with the high-energy choreography while mixing Parisian silhouettes with a contemporary edge. The score pulls from decades of pop hits, stitched into something that feels completely its own.

Shake Things Up Before Curtain
Before select performances, Walton Arts Center is hosting an optional cocktail class led by local mixologists. For $45, you’ll get light appetizers from Fayetteville High School’s Brightwater culinary students, hands-on cocktail instruction, and two recipes to take home. The timing puts you in your seat before the lights go down. Must be 21 or older to participate.
